BTS, in full Bangtan Sonyeondan (Korean: “Bulletproof Boy Scouts” or “Bangtan Boys”), also called Beyond the Scene, South Korean K-pop (Korean pop music) band that shot to international stardom in the late 2010s.
In an interview with Affinity, J-Hope commented, "BTS has a deep meaning. 'Bangtan' means being bulletproof, that is, being able to block out the stereotypes, criticisms, and expectations that target teenagers as if they were bullets, in order to preserve the values and ideals of today's youth".
However, in 2017 they adopted the name Beyond the Scene (Beyond the scene) giving another twist to the meaning of BTS, with the idea of promoting self-love and freedom.
BTS had a devoted following (fans called themselves ARMY [“Adorable Representative MC for Youth”]) and was popular on social media. The band broke numerous records on YouTube—namely, for the most views of a music video within 24 hours of its release, for such singles as “Boy with Luv” (2019), “Dynamite” (2020), and “Butter” (2021).
The boyband has released a total of 30 albums in its 9 year artistic career.
